On the nearly 100th anniversary of International Women's Day, we focus on the advancement of women in the workplace with a brass tacks workshop on busting through any organization's glass ceiling.
The effort is a close collaboration of the Association of Women MBA's (www.theawm.com) and the CWIB (Columbia Women in Business) committee of CBSACBA.
WORKSHOP:
Celebrate successful women and gain insight to a critical, yet too often overlooked, competency that supports strategic influence and career success. This provocative and practical interactive presentation will address the elephant in the room—organizational politics. Learn how to read politics and develop specific strategies for breaking through barriers to advancement, influence and impact due to lingering gender norms. Prior to the session you will complete an online Organizational Savvy Assessment that will offer pragmatic ways to increase your strategic influence and grow your career using ethical politics. This dynamic session will cover:
- Business rationale for women entering the ethical corporate politics arena
- Signals to women that politics are impacting their influence, impact, and advancement
- Re-framing politics in a high-integrity manner
- Two Political Styles with strengths and risks
- Overview of Organizational Savvy Skill Sets
The workshop includes workbook material, interactive exercises and plenty of practical tips to deploy immediately at your workplace.

THE BESTSELLER BOOK: SURVIVAL OF THE SAVVY (FREE PRESS, 2004)
Each day in workplaces, power plays, egos, turf battles, hidden agendas, badmouthing, and deception hurt careers and bottom-line results. But “politics” doesn’t have to be a dirty word. The Wall Street Journal best-seller book, SURVIVAL OF THE SAVVY: High-Integrity Political Tactics for Career and Company Success (Free Press; 2004), shows that office politics are not something to shun. They are a strategic path to increased influence—not a necessary evil—to surviving and thriving in corporate America. This must-read received the Forbes.com CEO Book Club Pick, Institute of Management Studies Book of the Month, Fast Company magazine Reader’s Choice Award, and sterling reviews by many publications.
